In 1973, the company the Shubert brothers founded was reorganized as The Shubert Organization under the direction of Gerald Schoenfeld, Chairman, and Bernard B. Jacobs, President. Today, the Shubert Organization owns and/or operates seventeen Broadway theatres -- Ambassador, Barrymore, Belasco, Booth, Broadhurst, Broadway, Cort, Golden, Imperial, Bernard B. Jacobs (formerly Royale), Longacre, Lyceum, Majestic, Music Box, Gerald Schoenfeld (formerly Plymouth), Shubert, and Winter Garden; six off-Broadway venues -- New World Stages (Stages 1-5) and Stage 42; and two theatres outside New York – The Shubert, Boston and The Forrest, Philadelphia.

Its extensive participation in projects like Manhattan Plaza, The Times Square Business Improvement District (BID), The Mayor’s Midtown Citizens Committee, and TKTS, in addition to its ongoing commitment in maintaining and restoring its playhouses, have been crucial to the area’s allure to millions of visitors every year.

Shubert Ticketing is a leading international provider of ticketing services, delivering innovative solutions for users of the pioneering Telecharge interface and private-label technology. Shubert’s ticketing system sells millions of tickets each year via a range of online distribution channels, at box offices and call centers, and through hundreds of third-party agents. Shubert’s various ticketing brands offer unparalleled distribution and marketing to the theatre industry and beyond: Telecharge for retail ticket sales; Broadway Inbound for group buyers, tour operators, and the travel industry; and Plum Benefits for corporate consumers.
With the passing of Bernie (in 1996) and Jerry (in 2008), as Jacobs and Schoenfeld were affectionately known by friends and colleagues alike, the Shubert Organization entered a new era. Philip J. Smith, who had worked for the company for over 50 years, assumed the role of Chairman and Co-CEO, while Robert E. Wankel, who had been with Shubert over 35 years served as President and Co-CEO. Mr. Smith retired in June 2020, and Mr. Wankel became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
